The Papacy and the Mongolian Reigns in the 13th and 14th Centuries
The DFG project "Lateinische Kirche im Sondermodus?" aims at the edition of the papal epistles ad Tartaros betrayed in the series of the Vatican and Avignon registers for the years 1307-1346 according to modern editorial criteria.
The conference intends to investigate the phase of relations between Rome and the Far East which is to be placed in the first half of the 14th century, a phase that went beyond the first evangelisation of the Mongols and aimed at the institutionalisation of these relations.
