Sociologist Aladin El-Mafaalani speaks at the University of Wuppertal about shared mistrust, populism and the threat to democracy

The lecture is being organised by the Institute of Sociology at the University of Wuppertal. Organisers Professor Mark Lutter and Dr Joris Steg will welcome their guest Professor Aladin El-Mafaalani from the Technical University of Dortmund and will enter into a discussion with him after the lecture, which is also open to contributions from the audience.
"We are delighted to welcome Aladin El-Mafaalani to the University of Wuppertal, an esteemed colleague and an expert who is in demand in the media and politics. We at the Institute of Sociology want to create platforms for constructive discussion and invite all interested parties to join us on 29 June to discuss how we can deal with the increasing complexity of our world without jeopardising social stability," emphasise the organisers.
About the person
Aladin El-Mafaalani is a sociologist and holds the Chair of Sociology of Migration and Education at the Technical University of Dortmund. His research interests include the Collaborative Research Centre "Production of Migration", which is based at the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at the University of Osnabrück. El-Mafaalani is the author and editor of numerous academic publications. He has received several awards for his research and public work.
