The Friends and Alumni of the University of Wuppertal form a growing community. This was demonstrated once again by the summer party on Wednesday, which attracted numerous members and visitors to the Freudenberg campus. Given the sweltering temperatures, it’s hard to believe, but yes – sport was also a key focus: at the general meeting held prior to the festival, a decision was taken to revitalise the Sports Section. There have also been changes to the executive committee.

After 13 years, Norbert Brenken was bid farewell as second deputy chairman with heartfelt thanks and applause. His post is now taken over by Axel Jütz, Chairman of the Board of Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal. As an alumnus of the University of Wuppertal and a long-standing supporter, this is a succession that is both particularly fitting and most welcome.

Development and Commitment

“The summer festival is yet another great example of how FABU has developed over recent years. We are delighted by the steadily growing interest, which encourages us in our work. With so much commitment within our association, we can continue to drive forward our support for the University of Wuppertal – from building links with the local community to supporting numerous exciting university projects,” sums up FABU Chair Dr Jens Schmidt.

Dennis Fink also intends to build on this. The head of UniSports will lead the Sports Section in future: “Sport is more than just exercise! At UniSports, we are committed to taking a holistic view of health and strengthening community – on campus and beyond. I am very much looking forward to shaping the Sport Section once again as an active part of the FABU network.”

Investment in innovation

Following the general meeting, the evening continued in a relaxed atmosphere, offering not only numerous opportunities for discussion but also fascinating insights into the work of various university projects, such as that of the Green Lion Racing Team. Thanks to funding from FABU, the Formula Student Team at the University of Wuppertal will be able to further develop its electric vehicle in the coming season. On the test track that had been set up, quite a few FABU members not only took a look inside the car but also took a seat in the cockpit themselves.
