A journey through time: our excursion to Burg Castle on the River Wupper
During our excursion to Burg Castle in Solingen, our international students were able to discover a piece of regional history. Even the cable car ride up to the castle was a special experience and offered a beautiful view of the Bergisches Land countryside.
During an English-language guided tour, we learnt more about the fascinating history of the medieval castle, which was built around 1130 and once served as the ancestral seat of the Counts of Berg.
We gained an insight into life in the Middle Ages and learnt about the historical significance of the site, which is now one of the Bergisches Land’s best-known landmarks.
The excursion brought history and culture together in a vivid way, whilst also offering our students the opportunity to explore one of the region’s most famous attractions together and share their impressions.
Following extensive restoration work, the great hall was once again open to the public and now features a newly designed knights’ hall level. The historic courtyards invited visitors to explore and linger, whilst a new exhibition in the keep offered fascinating insights into the past. The circular walk along the shield wall and the battlement also opened up new perspectives on the castle and made the visit a special experience.
