Wuppertal Zoo Talks start again

02.06.2026|09:33 Uhr

The University of Wuppertal and Wuppertal Zoo are continuing their joint Wuppertal Zoo Talks lecture series, building on an established format for knowledge transfer between the university, zoo, city and region. The new series will kick off on 23 June 2026 at 6 p.m. with a lecture by Dr Lisa Grund, specialist veterinarian for zoo and wild animals. Under the title "Species protection versus animal welfare - conflict or complement?", she will address a highly topical area of tension in dealing with animals and biodiversity. The lecture also marks the start of the zoo talks, which have been further developed in terms of content and will be held regularly again in future.

Two lectures are planned per semester, which will address current scientific findings and socially relevant issues from the fields of animal ecology, ethology, sustainability, nature education and species conservation. The events offer space for exchange and discussion between science and the interested public.

A new organisational team has been formed for the resumption of the Zoo Talks: Prof. Dr. Gela Preisfeld (Zoology and Didactics of Biology), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Gust (Vice-Rector for Third Mission and International Affairs) and Prof. Dr. Gerald Hartung (Philosophy) will be responsible for the content and organisation of the series in future.
