Wirtschaftsjunioren and the University of Wuppertal are stepping up their collaboration and have today signed a three-year cooperation agreement. With this agreement, both partners are underlining their shared aim of sustainably strengthening the region’s innovative capacity and the links between academia, business and society, whilst opening up attractive prospects for young people in the region across academia, entrepreneurship and business.

Tim Ahlrichs, Chair of Wirtschaftsjunioren Wuppertal e.V., welcomes today’s development: “This partnership brings together existing joint activities and creates an even stronger foundation for future projects, such as retaining and nurturing entrepreneurial talent and advancing economic interests.” The university’s rector, Prof. Dr Birgitta Wolff, is also delighted with the initiative: “Thanks to the dedicated team at our Start-Up Centre and the generous support of the Jackstädt Foundation, we have long had significant overlap with the activities of the Wirtschaftsjunioren. What could be more natural than simply doing more together in future?”

Focus on joint, concrete projects

A particular focus is on supporting the next generation of academics and entrepreneurs. For example, the Wirtschaftsjunioren will continue to support the Germany Scholarship scheme and the Start-up Days organised by the University of Wuppertal’s Start-up Centre. The aim is to provide targeted support for business start-ups and business succession.

The transfer of knowledge between the university and businesses is also to be further expanded. Both partners are therefore exploring how real-world issues from the Wirtschaftsjunioren network can be integrated into teaching modules and practice-oriented formats. At the same time, new opportunities are emerging for exchange between young academics, budding entrepreneurs and senior executives.

The Wirtschaftsjunioren Wuppertal is part of a national and international network of young entrepreneurs and executives. Under the motto ‘An economy that achieves more’, around 120 members and supporting members are committed to the economic, social and sustainable development of Wuppertal. Working groups and project teams develop initiatives focusing on the business environment, education, politics, the environment and sustainability, communication, and events. At the University of Wuppertal, the Wirtschaftsjunioren is already a member of Schumpeter Alumni e.V. and of FABU e.V., the Association of Friends and Alumni of the University of Wuppertal.

The University of Wuppertal sees itself as a strong partner to the regional economy and, alongside research and teaching, consistently pursues the expansion of knowledge and technology transfer. Wuppertal also offers ideal conditions for future young entrepreneurs. Numerous institutes at the university of Wuppertal are committed to knowledge transfer and form an effective bridge for the mutual benefit of the university and the regional economy. The University of Wuppertal ranks among the top in Germany for its range of courses, its start-up support and the promotion of these initiatives.
