The annual Study Day for General and Comparative Literature will take place at the University of Wuppertal on 3 July 2026. This year's topic is "Lost in translation? Inter-, cross- and transmedia storytelling" and will be opened by PD Dr Markus Reitzenstein (University of Giessen) with a keynote on the series Twin Peaks (David Lynch).

All those who are interested in media, intermediality and the resulting scientific questions are cordially invited to come to the guest house of the university of Wuppertal (Rainer-Gruenter-Str. 3 42119 Wuppertal) on 3 July 2026 at 9 am. Drinks, cake and the like will be provided and prior registration is not required.

This is what it's all about

Many people have probably heard this before: "You'd better read the book, it doesn't come across properly in the film" or "Now there's even a board game about it". The theme of the study day ties in with such displeasure or disapproval. The focus will include questions about different ways of referring from one medium to another, telling a familiar story in a different medium, or telling a new story in an already established world. To this end, works of literature, film and digital media will be analysed, illustrated and presented in a way that is understandable to a broad audience.

Each of the 20-minute lectures is followed by a moderated Q&A session with the audience, during which there is an opportunity to discuss, concretise and continue the topic of the lecture. In addition, three longer breaks offer time and space for in-depth dialogue between the specialist audience and visitors.

The study day is a conference at which students and young academics from all over Germany can give a presentation on a specific topic in order to gain experience for their later professional life under the most realistic conditions possible.
