Restrictions at DB

Extensive railway closures in Wuppertal from February to July 2026

14.01.2026|10:57 Uhr

In the course of extensive modernisation and renovation work on the Deutsche Bahn rail network between Hagen, Wuppertal and Cologne, there will be considerable restrictions on rail traffic in Wuppertal in the coming months. Employees, students and guests of the University of Wuppertal are asked to inform themselves in advance about the current regulations. The carpooling community bergisch.move offers staff and students at the university a flexible and collaborative way to organise their daily commute to campus.

In the period from

  • 6 February to 10 July 2026

no long-distance trains will stop in Wuppertal. In addition, individual regional connections - including RE 7 and RB 48 - will be replaced by buses in sections during this period.

Rail traffic in Wuppertal will come to a complete standstill during the following periods

  • 6 February to 20 February 2026
  • 20 March to 3 April 2026
  • 15 May to 12 June 2026

During these phases, no regional trains or S-Bahn trains will be able to run. All connections will be replaced by buses and express buses of the rail replacement service (SEV).

Stops of the rail replacement service

The replacement buses will not stop at Wuppertal Central Station. Instead, the central SEV stop for almost all lines is the Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal. One exception is the RE 4 bus route, which uses alternative stops.

Travellers are advised to allow extra travel time and to check the exact departure points and times before setting off.

For those travelling by car

bergisch.move carpooling community

Staff and students at the University now have a new way to make their daily commute to campus flexible and collaborative: the bergisch.move carpooling community.

Using the app, commuters can easily form carpool groups with colleagues and fellow students travelling similar routes – whether as drivers or passengers. The app helps users find suitable journeys along their own route, agree on convenient pick-up points and coordinate directly via an integrated chat function. This makes organising carpooling straightforward and flexible, allowing it to be easily integrated into everyday work and study life.

Important notice for existing users – goFLUX is becoming Karos: The goFLUX app for using the carpooling community will be shut down on 30 April 2026. To ensure you can continue using the carpooling community, please follow the instructions in the goFLUX app to transfer your account to the new Karos app. Your existing details – such as your commuting routine – will be automatically transferred.

The following terms and conditions (continue to) apply to the use of the app:

  • Drivers receive financial compensation for passengers they take.
  • Passengers contribute to the travel costs; the amount goes entirely to the driver.
  • Optionally, drivers can voluntarily waive the cost contribution so that passengers can ride for free.

Partial reopening of PC car park

The partial reopening of the PC car park, which was damaged in a fire, will help ease the parking situation: levels 12 to 18 will be available for use again from 1 February. This will provide the university with around 200 additional parking spaces. Access to PC is only possible via the PB car park, level 13, on Max-Horkheimer-Straße.

Please continue to observe the designated parking zones on campus, as incorrectly parked cars will be towed away
