In a comparison of kilometres cycled with the other teams from Wuppertal, the University of Wuppertal thus came fourth in the overall standings; in the categories of team size (109 BUW cyclists) and number of journeys made (1,677), it even came second. This is a great incentive for the team to get back on their bikes again next year.
The ‘Stadtradeln’ campaign at BUW was supported by Christiane Freyer (Equality Officer), Julia Schumacher (Sustainability Officer), Luisa Hieckel (Fit4Klima) and UniSport.
Behind the ‘Stadtradeln’ cycling challenge lies the Climate Alliance initiative, in which local authorities from across Germany take part. Over a period of 21 days, residents are encouraged to cycle for everyday journeys, reduceCO₂ emissions and thus contribute to climate protection and a cycle-friendly infrastructure.
In Wuppertal, a total of 2,571 people responded to the call, forming 175 teams and covering 609,089 kilometres, resulting in a reduction of 100 tonnesof CO2.
