To mark International Children's Day on 1 June 2026, two modernised family rooms were opened on the Grifflenberg campus. They can be found in buildings G (G.09.64) and I (I.13.86). At the same time, the nappy-changing areas at the Grifflenberg, Freudenberg and Haspel campuses were redesigned.

"The new family rooms help to further improve the compatibility of studies, work and family and offer a safe place for parents and children on campus," emphasises Maria Gierth, Head of the Family Office at the University of Wuppertal.

The bright and friendly family rooms offer the opportunity to rest, breastfeed, change nappies or work with children in a relaxed atmosphere. Comfortable seating, a work table with chairs and toys suitable for children create an environment that allows both concentrated work and time spent together. Colourful murals, cheerful posters and coordinated furnishings ensure a well-rounded design concept.

Employees can apply for a locking authorisation for the family rooms. Students can obtain a key for a deposit from the porter service at the main entrance. Use is possible during the regular opening hours of the university.

As part of the redesign, the nappy-changing areas were also fitted with new covers and child-friendly wall decorations.
