08.01.2026|16:00 Uhr

Democracy and the rule of law are mutually dependent: without democracy there is no rule of law, without the rule of law there is no democracy. At the "Future Democracy Forum" on 15 January 2026 at the University of Wuppertal, Dr Benjamin Limbach, Minister of Justice of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, will speak and discuss how we understand the rule of law in a time of rapid social and political change. How do we protect it from extremist threats? What do we need to change in order to maintain trust?

The event in the Johannes-Rau-Zentrum on the Freudenberg campus (Rainer-Gruenter-Straße 5, 42119 Wuppertal) starts at 6 pm. It is being organised in cooperation with the Wuppertal District Court. As the number of seats is limited, registration is requested. Participation is free of charge. To register: https://uni-w.de/wplt0.

Dr Benjamin Limbach studied law at the University of Bonn and completed his legal clerkship at the Regional Court of Bonn from 1997 to 1999. After working as a judge at the Administrative Court of Cologne, he took on management tasks in the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia from 2003, was Director of the North Rhine-Westphalia University of Applied Sciences for the Administration of Justice - now the NRW University of Justice - and Head of the NRW Justice Training Centre from 2014 to 2020 and President of the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration from 2020. He has been Minister of Justice of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia since June 2022.
