For three weeks, from 9 to 29 May, Wuppertal is getting on its bike and collecting kilometres for climate protection and a bicycle-friendly infrastructure. Administration, politics, schools, companies and clubs form their own teams and compete to cycle the most kilometres. In 2025, the 102 cyclists in the team from the University of Wuppertal (BUW) covered a total of 19,255 kilometres and came fifth in the overall city rankings. This success is to be further expanded this year.
All students, employees and friends of the university are invited to take part in the BUW city cycling team. Occasional cyclists are just as welcome as competitive cyclists. Every kilometre cycled is counted, whether on the way to university, to the train station or on a bike tour, regardless of whether the route is covered in Wuppertal, Cologne or on holiday.
You can register for city cycling and join the "University of Wuppertal" team via the following link: https://uni-w.de/stadtradeln.
The kilometres collected can be entered manually in your personal profile or automatically via the city cycling app. This year, there will once again be joint activities centred around city cycling. It starts with the kick-off event of the three municipalities of the Bergisch city triangle on 9 May 2026, from 11 a.m. at Müngstener Brückenpark. Members of the BUW team will receive regular updates by email. The Rocket Chat is available for team members to exchange information: #Radmobilitaet.BUW.
