Final push for writing projects
Together until the early hours: the nacht.schicht is back for its eleventh edition

The nacht.schicht is more than just an extended study programme. It is the only initiative at the University of Wuppertal that deliberately keeps the campus open into the night, creating a special atmosphere in which people can write together.
The night is supported throughout by the writing workshop ‘wort.ort’, which offers personalised advice on all matters relating to writing. As well as quiet workspaces, ‘whisper areas’ are also available – for anyone wishing to work in groups whilst exchanging ideas quietly.
The workshop programme provides further inspiration for writing: a talk by Prof. Dr Kirsten Schindler offers insights into how academic reviews are produced – thereby providing a glimpse into the ‘other side’ of assessment. Also new this year are the blitz.workshops: compact 30-minute sessions on specific topics, such as the formatting of academic papers, which can be put into practice in your own text straight away.
There’s plenty of time for breaks too: activities organised by UniSports provide a chance to get some exercise, whilst a Snoozle corner offers a spot to relax in between. Last year’s bead-crafting station is also making a comeback, adding a creative break to the programme. Free drinks and light snacks will be available throughout the night.
The nacht.schicht is aimed at anyone who wants to make progress on their writing projects in a focused yet collaborative atmosphere – whether it’s their first essay or a dissertation.
The workshops
wort.ort is one of five workshops – a network designed to help students get started with their studies at BUW. Whether it’s core mathematical skills, academic writing skills in German and English, the correct use of sources or key steps in programming – the workshops equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their studies.
The services are aimed at students of all subjects. The range extends from individual consultations at the helpdesk to collaborative learning in small groups and digital learning resources.
