The “Place of Silence” is designed as an open-plan space that is interfaith and ideologically neutral. It offers the opportunity for individual use and quiet contemplation, and is intended as a place of mindfulness and reflection for the entire university community. It thus complements the existing facilities for relaxation and recreation on campus by offering a new dimension of tranquillity.
A pleasant atmosphere for retreat and concentration
The space is easily accessible, situated directly at the main entrance to the Grifflenberg campus, and is freely accessible Monday to Friday from 8 am to 10 pm, Saturdays from 10 am to 10 pm and Sundays from 10 am to 7 pm. It has been deliberately designed as a place of tranquillity, creating a pleasant atmosphere for retreat and focusing on what really matters.
It is therefore not intended as a work or study space, but as a space for deliberate breaks and moments of silence. This clear purpose supports the special atmosphere of the place and helps to make it a protected space of tranquillity that everyone can use.
Respectful and mindful interaction
Respectful and mindful interaction also characterises the use of the space. The university attaches particular importance to equality and the recognition of all gender identities, as well as to non-discriminatory behaviour.
“With the ‘Place of Silence’, we are creating a space that offers respite and contributes to the quality of life on campus. It adds an important dimension of tranquillity and mindfulness to campus life,” emphasises University Rector Prof. Dr Birgitta Wolff.
