The university of Wuppertal (BUW) welcomed 24 pupils and two teachers from Hangzhou Yuhua Greentown School in China to its Grifflenberg campus. The visit took place as part of the first in-person summer school organised by the China-NRW University Alliance, of which BUW is a founding member.

During their stay in Wuppertal, the young people learnt about the range of degree programmes on offer at the university of Wuppertal, the application process and the support services available to international students. They also took part in a German language course at the Language Teaching Institute, explored the campus and visited Schloss Burg in Solingen.

The Summer School took the group to several university campuses in North Rhine-Westphalia from 7 to 17 July. The aim of the programme is to give international school pupils an early insight into studying in Germany and to promote academic exchange.

The BUW’s International Centre also used the visit to hold initial discussions with Hangzhou Yuhua Greentown School regarding potential school placements for teacher-training students from Wuppertal. The discussions met with great interest and are to be taken further.
