As part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Schools and Education of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, a 15-member delegation from the US state visited the University of Wuppertal (BUW) in mid-March as part of a week-long trip through NRW. The members were informed about current developments and the organisation of teacher training at the University of Wuppertal.

Prof Dr Gino Casale welcomed the delegates on behalf of the Board of the School of Education together with the Vice-Rector for Studies and Teaching, Prof Dr Susanne Buch. The main topics were the structure of teacher training in NRW, the degree programmes offered by the University of Wuppertal and selected projects.

Professor Dr Claudia Bohrmann-Linde (Chemistry Didactics), for example, presented starting points for the further development of teacher training courses. Challenges such as the shortage of teaching staff, inclusion, digitalisation and study organisation were also discussed in depth; the delegates were particularly interested in the views of the student teachers taking part in the discussion.

"It was exciting to see that despite the different education systems, many challenges are perceived similarly," summarised Dr Michaela Heer, Managing Director of the School of Education's Service Department and organiser of the visit. "This emphasises how important the international exchange of perspectives is for the further development of teacher training."
