Funding for foreign students

DAAD STIBET scholarships for international degree students and doctoral candidates in the final stages of their degree

The International Office at the University of Wuppertal is able to provide financial support for students and doctoral candidates using sponsorship funds from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The primary aim of this financial support is to enable qualified international students and doctoral candidates to concentrate of their degree and final dissertation.

Who can apply

Students and doctoral candidates who

  • are not German citizens with a foreign higher education degree,
  • are enrolled at the University of Wuppertal in order to acquire a degree qualification,
  • need financial support,
  • and who, based on their previously achieved grades or the progress of their doctoral research, are likely to graduate within a maximum of 12 months

 

Applications are NOT accepted from:

Students who

  • are exchange, Erasmus+ or short-term students at the University of Wuppertal
  • are of German nationality or who have completed their undergraduate
  • studies in Germany
  • receive BAföG payments
  • are receiving a full stipend or scholarship from the German Academic
  • Exchange Service (DAAD) or a similar organisation
  • are planning to complete a study programme, work placement or research stay abroad during the period of the scholarship

Scholarships for international Bachelor's and Master's students are generally granted for three months with funding of 500 euros per month.

For international doctoral candidates, the funding period is usually five months with funding of 1,200 euros per month.

 

Bachelor's and Master's students apply online via Lime Survey (see green box on the right).

The following documents must be uploaded as a PDF in the application portal:

  •    Copy of passport and copy of current residence permit.
  •     Current certificate of study
  •     Current account statement from StudiLöwe
  •     Confirmation of registration for the thesis
  •     Justification of financial need
  •     Proof of possible other financial aid including BAföG

 

Please note that your application can only be considered if you submit a properly completed application with all the required documents. The selection of students for scholarship support is done by a committee on the basis of the application documents. The main selection criteria are closeness to graduation (maximum 12 months), financial need, and very good grades or the progress of your doctoral research.

A properly completed application does not guarantee scholarship support.

The applicants are informed in writing about the outcome of the application process by the International Office. We ask applicants to refrain from contacting us in advance.
