Services offered by the University of Wuppertal
The university information and media centre (ZIM) can issue a guest account to individuals who are neither staff members nor students at the university. This account entitles the holder to use the ZIM’s services within the university of Wuppertal.

User support: To provide assistance with computers and services offered by the ZIM and the university network, the ZIM runs a regular support service for its users, run by student staff in the User Support Office (T.11.04, telephone 3295) from Mon–Thu, 09.00 – 16.00 and on Fridays, 09.00 – 13.00
The eight dining halls, cafeterias and campus restaurants at the university of Wuppertal offer a wide selection of affordable, healthy and tasty food and drink in a friendly atmosphere (Studierendenwerk Wuppertal).
As an international visiting student (if you are not enrolled at BUW), you can obtain a visitor’s card for the duration of your stay at the university of Wuppertal, which allows you to use the Wuppertal Student Services’ dining halls and cafeterias at reduced rates. The guest card will be issued to you by the International Centre on the Grifflenberg campus, Gaußstr. 20, Building O, Level 06, Room 10. To obtain this, please present a form signed by your academic supervisor at the University of Wuppertal, confirming your status as a visiting researcher.
Please note: Guest cards are issued exclusively to international visiting students. A guest card is not required for visiting researchers who are no longer students, as there is now no longer any difference in prices between those charged to external visitors and those charged to BUW staff. There are now only two price categories: students and staff.
Would you like to combine a night out with a meal, have a drink whilst out and about, or are you looking for a lovely café or a cosy pub? Wuppertal has a wide variety of restaurants, bars, pubs and cafés. You can find more information here.
The university sports centre at the university of Wuppertal is open to all members of the university and offers a very wide range of sports, from aerobics and fencing to Zumba.
In addition, the BergWerk fitness centre offers strength and endurance training of the highest standard. Further information can be found here.
You can apply for a library card, which allows you to borrow books from the university library free of charge.
The German courses offered by the Language Teaching Institute give you the opportunity to discover the country, its people and their way of life. Through a selection of topics and classroom activities, you will be introduced to the German language and culture, as well as to various aspects of student life in Germany and, in particular, in Wuppertal. A particular challenge for anyone studying, pursuing a PhD or working whilst raising a child is balancing university life with family life. To help make this possible, the Family Office offers various options to make it easier for parents to balance their studies, work and family life, and advises members of the university community on all matters relating to family support.

Useful tips
You can buy groceries cheaply at the supermarkets at, for example, „ALDI“, „LIDL“ or „PENNY“.
In addition, you can find, amongst others, Asian, Italian, Turkish and Russian supermarkets in Wuppertal and in the surrounding area.
Please keep in mind that the supermarkets are open from Monday to Saturday, only. They are closed on Sundays and public holidays.
Wuppertal is very well connected to the surrounding region. Buses, trains or the suspension railway can be used as means of transportation. A car is therefore not absolutely necessary. Please find more information here:
