Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Gust

Biography

After completing his apprenticeship as a toolmaker, Peter Gust studied mechanical engineering at the University of Siegen. Having obtained his diploma, he stayed in Siegen and worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Mechanics and Control Engineering – Mechatronics for five years and completed his doctorate in 2001. From 1998 to 2001, he was in charge of the Department for Research and Development at the Dr. Reinhold Hagen Stiftung in Bonn. He then became head of development and project planning at a medium-sized automotive supplier for four years. From 2006 to 2008, he was Professor of Virtual Product Development and Design at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and from 2008 to 2009, Professor of Design and Methods of Product Development at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (now TH Köln), where he simultaneously held the position of Director of the Institute of Product Development and Engineering Design. Since 2009, Peter Gust has been Professor of Design Theory in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wuppertal.

At the University of Wuppertal, he was, inter alia, Vice Dean in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Safety Engineering and continues to be a member of the executive board of the Center for Continuing Education.

As a member of the board, he is involved in the business activities of the Institute for Security Systems in Velbert and the Institute for Product Innovations in Solingen. He is co-initiator and co-founder of the “Maschinenbau Netzwerk Bergisch Land”, a network of companies in the local region linked to mechanical engineering.

Since 1st September 2022, Peter Gust has been Vice-President Third Mission and International Affairs.
