... - our Third Mission - , the interaction of research and teaching with society in order to achieve a positive impact outside the university. Although Third Mission explicitly stems from research and teaching, its activities do not fall within the traditional remit of the first and second missions, are not subject-specific activities and are always voluntary.

We at the University of Wuppertal are a source of ideas and an active partner that creates added value and contributes solutions to social challenges. We are deeply rooted in our tradition-rich region of innovation and industry and work together to address the major issues of our time. To this end, we maintain close and cooperative contact with the local authorities in the Bergisch city triangle of Wuppertal, Solingen and Remscheid and work together with them.

To support and promote the third mission activities of our members, we are establishing a UniService Third Mission, which will be much broader in scope than the classic transfer tasks in order to fulfil our third mission. To this end, we are structuring established formats for third mission activities as best practice and making them accessible and efficiently usable for interested members of the university.

The third mission commitment of all members of the university is highly valued and combines our high standards of responsible scientific work with the information needs of actors outside the academic sphere. It is based on the university's mission statement and the ethical principles defined therein.
