TeachingPLUS
When students and graduates of teacher training programmes are asked about their assessment of the practical relevance of their studies, they often report a desire for even more proximity to their later professional life. In particular, alumni who are already in the teaching profession identify topics and practical skills that they only encounter in their day-to-day work at school and which are then filled through dialogue with colleagues, professional development and "learning by doing". Many of these subject areas can only be systematically addressed to a limited extent during the degree programme, as they constantly arise in a new and agile way from a wide variety of social developments in dealing with adolescents. The topics desired by students are mostly in the area of so-called soft skills and very practical competences and are therefore not part of the university curriculum.
With this in mind, the School of Education's service department set out to address such topics - in direct dialogue with students - and create a corresponding extra-curricular programme.
Desired topics were first identified together with students and then suitable lecturers from the field were sought. Under the name "LehramtPLUS", a diverse programme was created consisting of practical workshops, lectures, excursions, information events and exchange sessions on topics such as bullying and anti-bullying, child welfare, sex education, intercultural competence, voice training, extracurricular learning locations, multilingualism, stress management and self-empowerment. Offers from our cooperation partners, such as the Junior Uni or other university locations, are also advertised as part of the programme in order to create the best possible synergies.
The corresponding offers are certified, continuously evaluated and adapted on a semester-by-semester basis in order to put together a programme that is as student-centred and needs-based as possible, offering participants both valuable practical experience and useful additional qualifications.
