Invitation

Lecture on the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics

18.11.2025|11:51 Uhr

The Physics Department of the University of Wuppertal invites you to a scientific lecture on 1 December 2025 as part of the Physics Colloquium. The occasion is the awarding of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics, which will be awarded this year to John Clarke, Michel Devoret and John Martinis for their groundbreaking work on the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation in an electrical circuit.

Prof Dr Christian Hemker-Heß presents the award-winning research results and offers a well-founded introduction to the physics of superconductivity. He also explains the underlying quantum mechanical mechanisms and categorises the significance of these findings for modern basic research and future technological developments.

The article is aimed at people with a scientific background and is designed as a specialised lecture. It deliberately goes beyond a popular science presentation.
