Thea Dorn is a writer, studied philosopher and dramaturge. She is known to a wide audience in her role as a TV presenter (including "Das literarische Quartett") and also plays an important role in the literary field as co-spokesperson for the authors' association PEN Berlin. She has published a wide range of works, including crime stories, novels, theatre plays and essays. Thea Dorn has received several awards for her work, including the German Television Prize and the Adolf Grimme Prize.

"With Thea Dorn, we welcome a poetry lecturer who operates at the interface of literature and social discourse like no other. Her versatility and analytical acuity make her an outstanding dialogue partner - not only for the academic audience, but also for the interested public. For the students, her visit to the University of Wuppertal is a special opportunity to engage in direct dialogue with central questions of factual storytelling," says Prof. Christian Klein, initiator of the Poetics Lectureship at the Centre for Narrative Research at the University of Wuppertal.

Encounters with renowned authors

As part of the lectureship, students spend a semester examining individual writers and the special features and challenges of reality narratives. The highlight is the personal exchange with the respective authors. The event format celebrated its premiere in the summer semester of 2022 with Marcel Beyer as one of the most important and productive contemporary authors in the German-speaking world. In the years that followed, no less prominent representatives were guests at the University of Wuppertal, including the publicist Carolin Emcke and the literary and social scientist Jan Philipp Reemtsma.
