Former Rector Prof. Dr Lambert T. Koch and current Rector Prof. Dr Birgitta Wolff recalled how closely the history of the University of Wuppertal is linked to the work of Johannes Rau as Lord Mayor, Science Minister and Federal President. "Without him, this university would not exist," said Prof Dr Lambert T. Koch. Since 2022, it has housed Johannes Rau's private library with around 16,000 works, many with personal dedications. Prof Dr Birgitta Wolff reported that the new building is also actively used as a venue for events and meetings. "Johannes Rau strongly characterised the concept of confidence. For us, the science we use to develop solutions to challenges is a great source of confidence."
Christina Rau is delighted at how well the Johannes Rau Library has been received by the university community. "This is exactly the kind of space my husband would have wanted. They design it in such a way that he would have loved it." Johannes Rau repeatedly emphasised the responsibility of science for society and for shaping the future.
