For some athletes, this year's University Athletics Championships had a significance that went beyond winning the title: On Thursday, they had the opportunity to fulfil the standards for the World University Games taking place on the Rhine and Ruhr in July. The qualifying time for the 400 metre hurdles is 50.50 seconds.

The final German squad for the World University Games will be nominated next week on Tuesday (10 June) - until then, the new German university runner-up Lennart Roos can continue to work towards taking part in the major sporting event, which is also known as the Olympic Games for students.
