After a quarter of a century, it's time to say goodbye: In September, Gundi and Wolfgang Langensiepen will close the blue blinds of their university kiosk at the main entrance to the Grifflenberg campus for the last time. This marks the end of an era that was inextricably linked to everyday life on campus for many students and employees of the University of Wuppertal.

Early risers with a passion - that's probably the best way to describe these two. They were already working at the university kiosk in the early hours of the morning to open the doors at seven o'clock on the dot. By then, a lot of work had already been done: making sandwiches, preparing coffee machines, checking deliveries - and of course making sure that the popular nut corners, croissants and wholemeal rolls were ready.

Hugely popular with customers

But the kiosk was much more than a simple sales stand. Many students not only spent their breaks here, but also found encouragement or simply a friendly smile. "We have accompanied many students on their way through their studies," says Gundi Langensiepen. The popularity of the two kiosk operators with their customers is proof that these are not just empty words.

The personal touch, familiar atmosphere and attention to the little worries of everyday life have made the kiosk a special place on campus. Whether it was plasters for scraped knees, headache tablets before an exam or a kind word at the right time - Gundi and Wolfgang Langensiepen found the right solutions for many problems.

Chancellor thanks them on behalf of the university

With their departure, the University of Wuppertal is losing two people who have created a home on campus for many years. "Gundi and Wolfgang Langensiepen have characterised the university kiosk for many years with warmth, commitment and an open ear. We will miss them and the friendly manner with which they treated all their guests. They were an institution in university life, for which the whole university says 'thank you'! On behalf of the entire university, I wish Gundi and Wolfgang Langensiepen all the best for their well-earned retirement," says University Chancellor Ursula Löffler.

Succession

The university has already found a successor for the kiosk, who has planned the opening under his aegis for the start of the lecture period.
