The university team's start at 4.10 pm was the crowning finale of the day - and brought a sporting highlight to an all-round successful running event along the Wuppertal valley axis. A special highlight this year: the torch of the World University Games also travelled along the route. As part of its tour through North Rhine-Westphalia, it made a stop at the Schwebebahn-Run run to draw attention to the international university games taking place in the Rhine-Ruhr region from 16 to 27 July 2025 - the "Student Olympic Games".
The Schwebebahn-Run has long been more than just a sporting event - it is a celebration for the city, in which institutions such as the university also present themselves visibly and collectively. For the university team, taking part was not just a sporting challenge, but also an expression of a sense of solidarity: "Running brings people together - and that's what makes this day so special," emphasised Chancellor Ursula Löffler. "We experience how students and employees get active together, exchange ideas and strengthen team spirit across faculties. Sport is an important part of our university culture. It's great to be visible as the University of Wuppertal at an event like this, together with the many cooperating companies and organisations that also took part."
Dennis Fink, Head of UniSports, adds: "Company runs such as the Schwebebahn Run offer ideal conditions for taking cooperation in everyday work and study life to a new, informal level. Exercising together promotes health, strengthens a sense of togetherness and creates new contacts - whether on the running course or at the relaxed finish afterwards. At the same time, the team sends a strong signal to the outside world: the university lives a culture of exchange and openness - even beyond the lecture hall and office."
With a total of over 6,000 participants, this year's Schwebebahn-Run was once again a complete success, according to the organisers. One thing is certain for the University of Wuppertal: it will be at the start again in 2026 - and will keep moving.
