She was nominated for the award by her lecturer Matei Chihaia, Professor of Spanish and French Literature, who emphasised her exceptional commitment and special significance for the university community in his nomination: "Camilie Piaumier makes a significant contribution to the connection between the University of Wuppertal and France and is outstandingly committed to ecological, feminist and cultural issues."

As a member of "Students for Future", she has been raising awareness of sustainability among the student body since 2021 and is involved in the organisation of high-profile formats such as lecture series. Her feminist commitment led her to the autonomous feminist department of the student union (AStA), which she later headed. In this role, she planned events, raised awareness of feminist issues and supported both international and German students. Since April 2022, Piaumier has also organised the French regulars' table ("table ronde"), an extremely successful institution that brings together students with an interest in France on a weekly basis and thus strengthens intercultural exchange on campus.

Around 1,600 international students and doctoral candidates from more than 120 countries are currently studying and researching at the university of Wuppertal. Some of them enrich the university community through their outstanding academic achievements and special intercultural and social commitment. To honour this, the university awards the DAAD Prize (German Academic Exchange Service) every year.
