Staying curious, discovering new things, learning together - even in retirement, the University of Wuppertal opens up exciting prospects for anyone who wants to deepen their interests. As part of a series of events in the Citykirche Elberfeld, the Centre for Continuing Education (ZWB) and the Association for the Promotion of Studying in Old Age (vfsa) provide insights into research and teaching at the university and information about studying for older people.

When? Thursday, 04 September 2025, 16:00-17:30
Where? Citykirche Elberfeld (Kirchplatz 2, 42103 Wuppertal)
Admission: free

At the Citykirche, participants will learn more about the wide range of academic continuing education programmes for senior citizens at the University of Wuppertal. They will also have the opportunity to gather information, ask questions and exchange ideas with other interested parties in a pleasant atmosphere.

A special item on the programme is the lecture by PD Dr Georg Eckert and Dr Thorsten Beigel (Department of History): "Vox populi, vox Rindvieh? - Popular sovereignty in historical perspective". This will be followed by an open discussion round.

The ZWB team and the vfsa will be available for personal discussions after the event. The event is aimed at anyone interested in continuing academic education for older people - regardless of previous education or study experience.

The series of events on studying for older people is taking place for the second time in the CityKirche, and further dates are already planned. The aim is to use an academic contribution as an example to show what research and teaching at the university is all about - and thus make science a tangible experience for anyone interested in the city.

The next information-only event on studying for older people will take place on 22 September at the University of Wuppertal.
