20.08.2025|10:10 Uhr

Artificial intelligence is changing our everyday lives as well as the way we research, teach, collaborate and communicate. This change can also be felt in many areas at our university. With the new field of activity "Artificial Intelligence for Empowering the Future", or AI4EF for short, the University of Wuppertal wants to make existing AI activities visible, promote new forms of collaboration and network the diverse players at the university. All employees of the University of Wuppertal - from science, technology and administration - are invited to join in - and in concrete terms on 11 September!

The organisers invite you to the first KI-BBQ at the University of Wuppertal to present the field of activity and, above all, to network. The event will take place on 11 September from 4 p.m. in Building K on the Grifflenberg campus.

After a welcome and a short keynote speech on the potential of artificial intelligence, there will be insights into the future plans for the field of activity. Afterwards, the focus will be on open dialogue between all those present: There will be various themed tables and a snack in the foyer of the building. Further information, an overview of the programme and the opportunity for employees to register can be found on the website https://ai4ef.af.uni-wuppertal.de/de/veranstaltungen/ki-bbq-2025/.

The interdisciplinary centre Machine Learning and Data Analytics (IZMD) will be responsible for the overarching coordination of this field of activity. "We, together in the team with the university lecturers Ursula Kocher, Matthias Ehrhardt and Tobias Meisen, who are responsible for the kick-off, expressly see AI4EF as an open, collaborative project and look forward to everyone taking part in the first AI BBQ - regardless of which and how many points of contact with AI currently exist in everyday working life," emphasises IZMD Managing Director Dr Erik Freier.

New emphases through fields of activity

As part of the work on the new University Development Plan 2026 to 2035, the Rectorate has defined four strategic focal points for BUW's research landscape in a joint process with researchers, committees and central institutions. Organised by researchers, the fields of activity invite all BUW employees working on relevant topics to network:

Technology Towards Zero-Waste and Zero-Carbon

Next Generation Learning, Teaching, Knowledge Transfer

Shaping Sustainable Societal Transformation
