Holger Hoppe has already been involved in a large number of research and practical projects on drainage planning, flood prevention, climate impact adaptation and the development of innovative measurement and planning concepts - including for the cities of Wuppertal, Munich, Bremen, Gelsenkirchen, Dortmund and numerous other municipalities and associations. With his expertise, he makes a valuable contribution to the further development of water management research and practice - particularly in the context of climate change and sustainable urban development as well as the elimination of microplastics in stormwater runoff.

The civil engineer has been successfully contributing this practical and research experience to teaching at the University of Wuppertal for many years. Since 2014, Dr Hoppe has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering in the field of "Stormwater management and climate-adapted urban drainage". In addition to basic knowledge, students gain solution-orientated insights into current practical projects.

After studying at the Ruhr University Bochum and the University College Cork in Ireland, he completed his doctorate in Bochum in 2006 on the subject of "Uncertainties in the planning of urban wastewater disposal systems". Since 2005, Holger Hoppe has been working for Dr Pecher GmbH in Gelsenkirchen-Buer, where he is currently Head of the Research & Innovation department in Gelsenkirchen-Buer. Hoppe has been involved in various committees and working groups of the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) on a voluntary basis for many years. Among other things, he is spokesman for the working group "Measurements and measurement data in drainage systems" and the ad hoc working group "Water-conscious development of urban areas".
