Blackout and crisis preparedness at the Ölberg Hub
At the Ölberg-Hub, Sattlerstraße 54, 42105 Wuppertal, everything will revolve around the security of our energy supply on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, from 6 to 8 pm. Because one thing is clear: if the power goes out for any length of time, our modern lives will come to a standstill - as the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) warns. But how does the power grid work and what are the real risks?
The "Blackout and Crisis Preparedness" event provides a sound insight into how the German electricity system works, clarifies potential weak points and takes a critical look at the claim that renewable energies are more susceptible to blackouts.
In an easy-to-understand presentation followed by a discussion, factual and practical information is provided on scenarios, precautionary measures and responsibilities. The aim is to educate rather than panic - with facts, background knowledge and room for questions. Admission is free.
Guided tour of the Wuppertal waste-to-energy plant
What role does the waste-to-energy plant play in the region's energy and crisis preparedness? Questions like these will be answered in an exclusive two-hour guided tour of the Wuppertal waste-to-energy plant on Monday, 29 September 2025. Starting at 10 a.m. on site - Korzert 15, 42349 Wuppertal - participants will gain exciting insights into the technology and processes of the plant - from the delivery of waste to the generation of electricity and district heating.
In addition to regular operations, special topics such as crisis preparedness, black start capability and the importance of the power plant for the future district heating supply in Wuppertal will also be clearly explained.
A practical look behind the scenes - right where waste is turned into an important contribution to the energy transition. Admission is free. The number of participants is limited to 20 people. The project team asks you to register via the New Efficiency website or the project website.
