AI for the BUW

University of Wuppertal launches new AI platform "genAI4BUW"

11.12.2025|11:15 Uhr

The University of Wuppertal has launched the new genAI4BUW platform, offering all students and employees data protection-friendly access to generative artificial intelligence. With this new service, the university is supporting the responsible use of modern AI tools in studies, research and administration.

genAI4BUW can be accessed via the KI:Connect web interface developed by RWTH Aachen University. Members of the University of Wuppertal can use the tool after logging in with their ZIM account. The tool works similarly to other AI chatbots (such as ChatGPT) as a text-based dialogue system. Users can ask the AI models available in the tool questions, set text-based tasks or, depending on the AI model, have multimodal content analysed.

Prerequisites for use

For BUW employees, successful participation in the training course on handling AI is mandatory before they can use genAI4BUW. Students are also recommended to familiarise themselves with the basics of working with AI before using it for the first time.

Supporting materials and training programmes

In order to facilitate the introduction to the use of generative AI, the University of Wuppertal provides extensive information and support services. These include, among others:

  • Access instructions for genAI4BUW
  • Technical instructions for using the platform
  • Terms of use
  • Checklist for the responsible use of generative AI services
  • Information on the legal framework
  • Recommendations for the use of generative AI in teaching and learning
  • Training programmes for employees and students
