Since its foundation, the IZWT has been dedicated to researching science and technology from the perspectives of history, philosophy and sociology. It sees itself as a place of interdisciplinary exchange between the humanities, natural sciences and technical sciences and promotes dialogue between different cultures of knowledge.

Renowned academics from Germany and abroad, including Hanne Andersen (Copenhagen) and Carsten Reinhardt (Bielefeld), will speak at the anniversary event. Current and former members of the Centre will also be taking part:
Dania Achermann (St. Gallen, Switzerland), Anne Sophie Overkamp (Wuppertal), Gregor Schiemann (Wuppertal), Erhard Scholz (Wuppertal), Cécile Stehrenberger (San José, Costa Rica), Friedrich Steinle (Berlin), Michael Stöltzner (Columbia, SC, USA) and Heike Weber (Berlin).
