Protocol logging

Due to current breaches of information security and other occurrences, every login to the University of Wuppertal domain web servers ( is recorded. The web servers are managed by the UW Information and Media Center. Other servers may be operated by individual faculties and university organizations: these are bound to observe the same regulations as the uni-wuppertal web servers. The following data are logged:

  •  name of file/page opened
  •  date and time of action
  •  IP address targeted
  •  status of action (file opened, file not found, command not executed etc.)
  •  browser ID 

Purpose of protocol logging

Data are logged and stored in order to identify and follow up any web abuses involving a UW server. Data are otherwise only used for statistical purposes related to optimizing the UW web service offer, in which case they remain anonymous and no user profiles are created.

Storage period

Protocol information is stored for a period of two months and then deleted unless it is subject to civil or criminal court proceedings.

Protocol information may not be passed on to third parties.
