Prof. Dr. Stefan F. Kirsch

Biography

Stefan F. Kirsch studied chemistry at the University of Marburg. After graduating, he obtained his doctorate, which dealt with the total synthesis of natural products, at the Technical University of Munich in 2003. He continued as a Feodor Lynen Fellow of the Humboldt Foundation and worked at the University of California, Irvine, conducting catalyst research. From 2005 to 2010 he held a junior professorship at the Technical University of Munich. He has received numerous awards such as the annual ADUC Prize (2007) and a fellowship by the FCI (Fonds der Chemischen Industrie, 2009) for his work on gold catalysis, domino reactions, and the synthesis of heterocycles. In 2011, he moved to the University of Wuppertal and has since headed the Department of Organic Chemistry.

At the University of Wuppertal, he was, inter alia, Vice Dean (Research and Development) from 2016 to 2020 and Dean of the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences from 2020 to August 2022.

Stefan F. Kirsch has been Vice-President for Research and Digitalization since 1st September 2022.
