The 36-year-old researches and develops user-centred and innovative teaching and learning applications, skilfully combining digital and analogue formats. At the centre of her work is the question of how digital technologies can make learning more motivating, sustainable and inclusive.

Her focus areas range from game-based learning and gamification to virtual and augmented reality in education and artificial intelligence in teaching and learning - for example in the form of playfully designed chatbots that provide individualised support for learners.

New paths for contemporary computer science education

"I am fascinated by how we can design learning processes in such a way that they are enjoyable and at the same time promote skills that are central to the digital society," says Grogorick. "At the University of Wuppertal, I want to work with students, teachers and researchers to develop new approaches to contemporary computer science education."

In the future, Grogorick plans to expand her research to include the use of audio formats such as podcasts and audio books in the learning context and to systematically investigate the effectiveness of open educational resources.
