Better tackling racism in the classroom: online conference focusses on training foreign language teachers
By engaging with perspectives that are critical of racism, teachers not only create inclusive learning environments, but also examine their own thoughts and actions. "This self-reflection, coupled with the promotion of skills that are critical of racism, enables teachers to better confront racism in the classroom and contribute to a fairer society," explains Dr David Gerlach from the University of Wuppertal. The professor of English didactics is organising the conference with colleagues from Wuppertal and Edinburgh.
The online conference "Intergrating Critical Anti-Racist Pedagogies into Language Teacher Education" focuses on racism-critical perspectives on the professionalisation of foreign language teachers. The conference provides a space for exchanging approaches, sharing experiences and discussing challenges faced by teachers and their trainers.
Participation is via Zoom Events, interested parties can register by email to antiracism2025[at]uni-wuppertal.de to register.
The conference is being organised by the Interdisciplinary Center for Language Teaching and Learning (IZSLL) at the University of Wuppertal in cooperation with the Towards Intersectionality in Language Teacher Education (TILTED) network.
