Academics, teachers and students discussed current research on early foreign language learning in a primary school context. Following welcoming addresses by Prof Dr Birgitta Wolff (Rector of the University of Wuppertal) and Prof Dr Viera Pirker (Vice President for Studies and Teaching at Goethe University Frankfurt a. M.), participants were able to choose from a wide range of topics.
For example, there were presentations on virtual exchange projects, assessment, task-based language teaching, inclusion and literacy. The conference programme consisted of three keynote speeches by internationally renowned academics, 26 presentations in nine thematic sections, three roundtables and 13 poster presentations.
To the conference
Every three years, ATFLY provides a framework for international scientific exchange on foreign language learning in primary school. As this area of education and research is becoming increasingly important worldwide, the organisers opted for an international and virtual format in order to enable many people to participate in an inclusive sense. "We are overwhelmed by the quality and topicality of the presentations and the high number of participants. We are now looking forward to launching the publication of the key findings," said the conference organisers. The ATFLY took place for the first time in 2022.
