Erasmus+ doctoral mobility

The new Erasmus+ 2021-2027 programme generation offers doctoral students exciting opportunities for international mobility.

Mobilities for doctoral candidates at BUW: Step 1: What status do I have as a doctoral candidate at BUW? Step 2: Enrolled at BUW (without employment contract): Step 3: Student mobility study with Erasmus+ (SMS) long-term and short-term mobility or student mobility internship with Erasmus+ (SMP). Step 2: Enrolled with employment at BUW: Step 3: Staff mobility (STA/STT).

Mobility for study purposes (SMS)

The most important facts in brief:

Study visits by doctoral students can be funded as Erasmus+ mobility.

Physical duration of study abroad: 3 to 12 months.

Additional virtual phase at home optional, no time limits.

An Erasmus+ mobility grant can be awarded for the period spent studying abroad.

Prerequisites:

  • Enrolment in a doctoral programme (student status)
  • There is Erasmus+ cooperation in the relevant subject with the host institution (Erasmus+ Inter-institutional Agreement)
  • Application analogous to Erasmus+ long-term mobility (duration: 3-12 months), i.e. early application for the place at the partner university via the online portal "Mobility Online", the application deadlines must be observed

Physical duration of study abroad: 5 to 30 days

Additional virtual phase at home optional, no time limits.

An Erasmus+ mobility grant can be awarded for the period spent studying abroad.

Prerequisites:

  • Enrolment in a doctoral programme (student status) at the BUW
  • There is an Erasmus+ cooperation in the relevant subject with the host institution (Erasmus+ Inter-institutional Agreement)
  • Participants receive fixed unit costs (flat rates) for travel and accommodation expenses from Erasmus+ funds.
  • Application analogous to Erasmus+ long-term mobility (3 to 12 months), i.e. early application for the place at the partner university via the online portal "Mobility Online", the application deadlines must be observed!

Mobility for internship purposes (SMP)

The most important facts in brief:

Study visits by doctoral students can be funded as Erasmus+ mobility.

Physical duration of the internship abroad: 2 to max. 12 months.

Additional virtual phase at home optional, no time limits.

An Erasmus+ mobility grant can be awarded for the period you spend abroad.

Prerequisites:

  • Enrolment in a doctoral programme (student status)
  • Agreement with the host institution about the (research) internship (internship contract)
  • The application must be submitted to the International Centre, Department International Office at least two months before the start of the internship project.
  • Applications must be submitted via the Mobility Online portal.

Stays abroad by lecturers for further education and training (STA/STT)

The most important facts in brief:

Stays abroad for lecturers can be funded as Erasmus+ mobility.

Physical duration of the stay abroad: 2 - 60 consecutive days. Due to the limited budget, we can generally only offer an Erasmus+ mobility grant for up to 14 days.

Additional virtual phase at home optional, no time limits.

Prerequisites:

  • There is a cooperation agreement (see website)
  • There is a contractual relationship between you and the University of Wuppertal
  • The teaching load at the partner university must be at least 8 hours per week

Advantages:

  • Opportunity to strengthen the European dimension of the host university
  • Opportunity to supplement the teaching programme at the host university
  • Opportunity to impart specialised knowledge to students who do not wish to/are unable to study abroad
  • Development of joint study programmes at the partner universities & exchange of teaching content and methods

An Erasmus+ mobility grant can be awarded for the period spent abroad.

Prerequisites:

  • You are employed at the BUW.
  • The further education and training activities have added value for your work at the University of Wuppertal
  • The mobility has been discussed with your supervisor
  • The host institution is a reputable institution that is active on the labour market or in the fields of education or vocational training.
  • Possible training and further education formats: Work shadowing, job shadowing, study visits, participation in curriculum development (lecturers), etc.
