Guest account

During your stay at the University of Wuppertal, you can apply for a guest account at the Zetrum für Informations- und Medienverarbeitung (ZIM). Guest accounts are intended for people who are neither employees nor students of the university. This entitles them to use the services of the ZIM, including email and internet. During your stay at the University of Wuppertal, you can request a guest pass which enables you to use the canteen and the cafeterias of the Hochschul-Sozialwerk Wuppertal (HSW) at a lower cost.

In order to identify you as a visiting scientist, please have the guest pass form filled out and signed by your academic supervisor at University of Wuppertal (see Download Center). Then, please submit the form either in person (Grifflenberg Campus, Gaußstr. 20, Building O, Level 06, Room 14d) or via email to stellmann{at}uni-wuppertal.de. The guest pass will be issued by the International Center.

The Hochschul-Sozialwerk Wuppertal (HSW) offers a wide selection of inexpensive, healthy and tasty meals and drinks in seven on-campus canteens, cafeterias and restaurants. Vegetarian and vegan meals are also available.

Please bring your guest pass at all times to get the discount.

The University of Wuppertal offers a variety of sport activities to all of its members including students, staff and visiting scientists.

The on-campus fitness centre BergWerk, which requires a gym membership, offers strength and endurance training at the highest level.

The library of the University of Wuppertal is on the Grifflenberg campus (Building BZ.7). In order to books for free, you need to apply for a library card. The application requires letter of consent from your supervisor, which you need to submit with your online application.

The Sprachlehrinstitut (SLI) of the University of Wuppertal offers a German evening course "German in the Evening" for international students and visiting scientists. Apart from learning German, the course provides an opportunity to connect with other people who have just arrived in Germany, as well. Through selected topics and class activities, you will be introduced to the German language and culture and to various facets of student life in Germany and in Wuppertal in particular. Finding the right balance between studying, doing a doctorate or working while raising children is a special task for anyone. The Familienbüro of the University of Wuppertal offers support and advises university members on all matters relating to family care.

Useful tips

You can buy groceries cheaply at the supermarkets at, for example, „ALDI“, „LIDL“ or „PENNY“.

In addition, you can find, amongst others, Asian, Italian, Tirkish and Russian supermarkets in Wuppertal and in the surrounding area.

Please keep in mind that the supermarkets are open from Monday to Saturday, only. They are closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Wuppertal is very well connected to the surrounding region. Buses, trains or the suspension railway can be used as means of transport. A car is therefore not absolutely necessary. Please find more in formation here:
