DAAD scholarships for those particularly affected by the war in Ukraine

Scholarship for special commitment

The scholarship is aimed at international prospective students, registered students and doctoral candidates as well as academics at the University of Wuppertal who have fled the war in Ukraine or have been directly affected by its consequences.

Support is available to Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian nationals in need as a result of the war. Special consideration is given to nationals of other nations who are unable to return to Ukraine and their respective home countries due to the war.

The scholarships for special commitment are financed by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) within the framework of the STIBET I programme with funds from the Federal Foreign Office and are awarded via the International Office.

Application deadline is 08.05.2023 - 28.05.2023

  • Membership of the eligible group of persons
  • The main criteria for awarding the scholarship are the circumstance of flight, financial hardship as a result of the war or an impeded possibility of returning to the home country, for example in the case of third-country nationals who have fled
  • Only foreign nationals with a higher education entrance qualification that was not acquired in Germany or at a German higher education institution abroad are eligible.

The monthly grant is 300.00 Euro/month for a maximum of 8 months.

You apply exclusively online via Lime Survey (see green box on the right).

The following documents must be uploaded as a PDF in the application portal:

  •     Copy of passport and copy of current residence permit.
  •     Current certificate of study
  •     Current bank statement from StudiLöwe
  •     Confirmation of registration for the thesis
  •     Justification of financial need
  •     Proof of possible other financial aid including BAföG
  •     Certificate of extracurricular/social commitment.

Only complete applications will be considered.

A selection committee of the university examines the applications received and selects the scholarship holders. You will be informed of the decision in writing within two weeks after the application deadline. Scholarships are awarded according to the availability of scholarship funds. There is no entitlement to funding. The selection is made in a non-discriminatory manner in compliance with the principles of equal treatment.
